THE FAULT IN OUR STARS- BEGINNING
BEGINNING-At the beginning of the story, Hazel Grace is being sent to a support group, where she will be able to communicate with kids who have also encountered a difficult disease. At one point, a new teen, named Augustus Waters, attend the group session, and she couldn't help notice him staring at her. Eventually they start up a conversation, and soon enough they become friends. They exchange books to read, in which resulted in a bond.
SETTING-
The location for where The Fault In Our Stars takes place is not specified, and it isn't very important. The only location mentioned is Amsterdam, where Augustus and Hazel go to meet Van Houten, the author of Hazel`s favorite book.
CONFLICT-
The conflict Hazel faces is internal conflict with the mind. She keeps thinking to herself, "I am the Alpha and Omega of my parent's suffering.", as if she really has no purpose in life but make people suffer. She keeps having the thoughts of dying, which she puts in a way called, "the side-effect of dying".
PROTAGONIST-
I, have also been through experiences similar to Hazel Grace's. At one point in time, bullying and drama with friends took over to the point where I felt like I couldn't take it anymore. I wanted to die, which Hazel put it as "a side affect of dying". At some point on our lives where we feel like we want to end everything.
CHARACTER-
If I had to pick a character to be my best friend it would be Augustus Waters. This is because, Gus proved his love and are for Hazel by sacrificing his wish for them to go to Amsterdam. He is all the qualities I look for in a friend: trust, loyalty, and love.
THEME-
The main theme in this book is love, and the message is that you can find love, in even the most difficult times. Especially through friendship.
MIDDLE-
In the middle of "The Fault In Our Stars", Augustus takes Hazel to Amsterdam. There they meet Van Houten, the author of Hazel's favorite book. Instead of receiving the answers they were expecting, they received a lecture about how messed up their lives were. Later on, Hazel learns that Augustus is again diagnosed with cancer.
DYNAMIC CHARACTER-
Hazel Grace has changed so much in her social character. When Augustus came into her life, she became more herself, and confident to the coming days.
MOOD-
When I read this book, I felt a feeling of sadness and sympathy for the situations of the characters, as they went through difficult unexpected events.
END-
In the end, Augustus dies. He knew that he was going to die, so they went through a rehearsal funeral. Later after his death, Hazel tries to find out if Augustus began to write a sequel to Hazel's favorite book. Instead, she finds a letter from Van Houten.
OPINION ON THE REACTION-
I was very surprised Hazel accepted the fact Augustus died, easier than I expected. I think that is very strong of her, I can use her as role model for myself, even though she isn't real. If I was her, it would've taken me months to get over the death.
BOOK CONNECTION-
This book reminds me of "A Walk to Remember" which is a movie released 2002. The characters are similar because at first Jamie and Landon could be portrayed us Augustus and Grace. They both didn't talk or socialize in the beginning but they end up together! Also, one of the lovers die eventually due to cancer or a sickness.
